TEAM NEWS

kidsMorgan Stanley Cycling Team and Rutherford Grove Winery Present Bikes For Tots It's time again to bask in the sun and vineyards of the Rutherford Grove Winery after a breathtaking bike ride in the Napa Valley, all for a great cause. Last year we donated more than 100 new bikes and helmets to families in need during the holidays.

Slated for Saturday, October 18, 2008, the fourth annual Bikes For Tots comprises a charity bike tour, followed by a lobster dinner in the vineyards in the afternoon. The event includes two ride options: a 30-mile scenic Napa valley tour, or a more challenging 60-mile ride, including the epic Ink Grade climb. Both rides leave from Yountville Elementary School in Yountville at 9:30 a.m.

But don't feel like you need to ride. Bikes For Tots is open to non-cyclists as well. After all, who wouldn't enjoy a fabulous lobster dinner paired with amazing wines, while socializing with old and new friends made along the road?

We also have some very cool items coming up for auction. Email us for all the details.

Hurry! Tickets are $90 per person. Make checks payable to "Trips For Kids" and mail to: Shawn Oliver, 1083 Mee Lane, St.Helena CA, 94574.

For more information, download the Bikes For Tots flyer or the Bikes for Tots poster.

Specialized, TurningWheels and Morgan Stanley Cycling Team band together to help the 49ers provide bikes to underprivileged children The San Francisco 49ers may be used to touchdowns, tackles and cheering fans, but after their latest community contribution, they look more like teddy bears. Continuing a tradition of holiday giving and community support, 49er players and staff partnered with TurningWheels for Kids to build 49 bikes for 49 underprivileged children at their training facility in Santa Clara on Dec. 19. The football team also worked with Specialized and Morgan Stanley Cycling Team, who collaborated to provide both bikes and helmets for the children.

bikesIn a fashion even Santa would be proud of, the assembly day was followed by an evening presentation of the bikes by some of the 49ers themselves at San Jose's Christmas in the Park. The deserving recipients were selected by CityTeam Ministries, a non-profit dedicated to serving the poor and homeless.

Specialized and Morgan Stanley Cycling Team were proud to work with such a network of people committed to spreading the joy of bikes. With their strong emphasis on bicycle advocacy, Specialized realizes the powerful impact of volunteer efforts such as this and are confident that these generous athletes serve as the perfect role models for bike advocacy and safety.

For Morgan Stanley Cycling Team, the 49er collaboration seemed yet another exciting way to spread Christmas cheer through bikes. They just finished a Bikes for Tots fundraiser that through leg power, donation of funds by the Napa Valley and Northern California cycling communities and help from Trips for Kids of Marin, was able to provide 100 Specialized bikes and helmets to needy children in the Bay Area.

TurningWheels for Kids is a non-profit that aspires to give every underprivileged child a bike so that they can experience the personal, social and health benefits of two wheels. By the 2005 holiday season, TurningWheels collected enough donations to contribute 452 bikes.
